Goodnight @Johnboy

Back from the abyss (holiday sales were stellar at the Dog Dish so I won’t complain about the craziness of the season…) and at my desk full time which is good cause I have a lot of catching up to do.

Launched tweetdeck for the first time in days and had a few hundred updates. One was from one of my favorites, @BarbaraNixon who was doing a survey about saying good night/good morning on twitter. I responded to her survey (I don’t), pondered why and then posted the following (more or less) in her comments section:

I never say good morning/good night and try (I said try… ahem…) to
make my posts valuable to those who follow me especially as my voice
gets smaller with more twitter users sharing every move/action they
make.

As a side, I just got a mental picture of a Waltonesque house with
everyone saying good night via twitter. Good night @Grandma, Good night
@johnboy hmmm.

Sorry, back on topic… I find Twitter to be less beneficial as it
becomes more popular/full of static. Even with tweetdeck to organize
those I follow it is challenging to listen/pay attention. I love the analogy of twitter as a party, don’t worry about past conversations just jump into the new ones. However, what used to
be a small get together with hugely beneificial information has turned into New Years Eve in Times Square.

Don’t get me wrong, the value of listening is still there, but after the fact, using
searches, not in real time. My igoogle page has tons of keyword searches which I review daily.

I hope 2009 brings about some changes for Twitter or at least the tools which can be used to help manage these conversations.

Thoughts??
