Facebook Changes – Cons (and pros?)

02/29/12 Bill Handy Comments (3)

Facebook is rolling out their new pages – coming March 30 so there is time to test what looks good and adjust settings appropriately.

There is a significant change as organizations make the switch -

No more tabs – yep, all gone. For many this is a serious issue. Did you just invest a truck load of money into that splash page?

Questions also seem to be missing. Perhaps not gone just not there for the moment.

There are also limits on what you can post on the cover image – “This space is not meant for promotions, coupons, or advertisements. Your cover photo should not be primarily text-based or infringe on anyone else’s copyright. Learn More about choosing a cover photo.”

On the bright side, there is a new admin panel which we are checking out. Stay tuned – we will share more soon.

There also seems to be functionality to “pin” certain posts to the top of your page. Something which could previously be done but lost that option a while back.

More to come.

*Update – the ability to solicit fans through your email lists is now included (again). Users can upload up to 5,000 email addresses. Perfect for organizational efforts with smaller audiences.

I can’t say that I care for the new timeline look. The cover image is nice. But, the rest? Meh. I think I’m getting old and change-resistant.

The “tab” feature is still there on the new Timeline Brand pages; they have now been moved up higher to the right beneath the Cover Photo. What has changed is that we cannot set one of the tabs/apps as a default landing page.

We can however pin a link to an app page to help tell a story or promote that app’s page. We have to be more creative in gaining “like” conversions and so on.

The Quesitons ability remains too, and the Premiums features will be added later in April adding more interaction on posted stories.

ahhh, good catch on the tab feature, thank you. I will have to monkey around with it when I have time. Also caught the questions issue, thanks for updating here. Will update the whole post hopefully later today/tomorrow.

      You at the marketing event?
